Regarding Covid

2020 was an unprecedented year. We recognize the losses our students’ have suffered due to COVID. Some may have lost loved ones, many have lost favorite activities, and all have lost a sense of normalcy. Our desire in planning this event is to provide a place and reason to celebrate after a long, difficult year.

However, celebration must be done in a safe way, following to the best of abilities the recommendations of the CDC and the state of Illinois. According to guidelines, handwashing, social distancing, mask wearing in public, and limiting both indoor and outdoor gathering sizes (based on square footage) are the first line of defense against the spread of COVID.

We hope to accomplish these benchmarks with the following -

  1. Event will be held in an open air venue. A large tent approx. 40x40’ will serve as the “dance floor” (COVID restrictions mandate 50% capacity according to square footage, allowing 120). Additionally, there will be multiple smaller tents, with long tables and seating (limited to 6 per table).

  2. There will also be a 30x40’ open air outbuilding for seating (COVID restrictions mandate 25% capacity according to square footage, allowing 50).

  3. Hand sanitizer will be readily available. Tables and chairs will be wiped down frequently.

  4. Food vendors will require social distancing while waiting in line.

  5. Students will be required to wear masks while riding the shuttle. Masks will be provided if students fail to bring one. Students will also need to wear a mask if entering the residence to use the restroom.

Despite best efforts, there will always be the inherent risk of possible exposure by attending any public gathering. We encourage each family to discuss with your student(s) whether or not they should attend, accurately counting the cost with graduation two week away. If a student plans to
attend, explain how personal responsibility in social settings can decrease their odds of future quarantine or illness. Finally, please be considerate of others; stay home if anyone in the family is sick.
